Notice that the item is not reflecting yellow, and that is the reason we see yellow. So if an item is black, that means it is not reflecting any colors (in other words, black is the presence of all colors). Black is not just a single color, but it is all the colors. On the other hand, white reflects all the colors. That means that white is not a color.
