Personally vs Dh/Wizards and with a bit of tweaking vs WD's

Can runs this 2handed/2x 1h/ 1h x shield

I've had alot of success running a Mystic Ally build:

FoT- Tclap
Tempest Rush - Tailwind

Serenity - Ascension
SSS - your choice base on what you like better
Mystic Ally - Water Ally ( he will take alot of the damage you'd receive from homing arrows/attacks, plus he puts the heat on the DH everytime he comes anywhere near your screen, forcing your opponent to use up some of his resource pool)
Mantra of choice (overawe or hard target IMO)

The passives are very open on this one, You can choose from what you're in need of most.
Some I've found useful:

Chant of resonance(this coupled with an SOJ + spirit regen on helm is nice.)
Fleet footed (catch them even faster)
Exalted Soul
STI (EHP boost)
Near Death Exp (Find it useful vs the higher output dh's that are hard to get in close quarters with.)
OWE

The Ally is the Major part of this build. Hes super fast and will trace your opponent wherever he/she goes, as well as slow him/her by 60% when hitting with proper attack.
If your opponent doesn't have Legacy Nat, they're going to have a hard time casting more than 6 SS's in a row. Your ally is going to put the heat on the DH forcing SS's while you hug some walls and let the ALLY do some of the walking.
Once the DH has popped a few SS's, its time to plan the attack. You're going to want to Tailwind in try to smack the DH, will prob SS again, as soon as that SS drops, strike with a SSS. The DH will either die, or you're going to start a foot pursuit.
Depending if they use traps or not, its time to chase them down while you've go their resources on the fritz. So its either a straight chase, or you're avoiding traps chasing them around.

There are so many variables with your opponents and their play style, its hard say "just use this setup, and do it like so". You're going to have to be creative and figure out whats works best with your play style and versus the opponents.

Yes! Ally works well versus DHs and WDs. Just like you said, it works as a shield and attacker. And WDs, hex work on ally too lol

I just listed out the builds that I like and work good on my monk. There are so many variables and good builds I'm sure.

Please DO share more ideas and experiences here! :)

"The strength of my blow has no equal." PvP against tank barbs.

PvP tank barbs are a formidable foe and difficult to take down but here's what i like to do against them.
Monks can do the highest single critical damage compared to other classes and this allows us to one shot even the tankiest barb.

I call my build "Cannon"

This build is about betting on a single blow. Below is the skill setup and playstyle.

Skills

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#ecYgXQ!dcb!ZZcYcZ

variations to the skill setup above:
Breath of Heaven/Penitent flame -----> Sevensidedstrike or Dashing strike
mantra of healing/circular breathing ----> Mantra of Conviction/Overawe

Gear
using a skorn, stack over 45% crit chance, crit dmg, 3200over dex and a little bit of ias(for faster cast rate). also use a 7% wol SOJ for this as the 30% elite dmg stacks well with 2hander skorn.
have 60khp, 500allres, 3.5k armor and 10k/20k health globes(if you can afford to. this helps to heal some crit rends).
on swap, get a daibo with 2++spirit regen, 60+ life per spirit spent and vitality.
I have about 14spiritregen/sec.

Playstyle
you will be tempest rushing and be on the defense most of the time. when it is time to engage, use flash and then cast your range bell. be sure you have a clear line of sight to do this.
1 bell is more than enuff to kill the barb when it crits. if it doesn't, cast another one and hope it crits.
if it still doesn't crit, you still have enough spirit to cast 1 more bell but i'll usually run away and fight another time.

by this time, the barb will be on the offense and chase you down. you will have a decent amount of spirit to tempest rush away after the burst.
use flash and penitent flame to crowd control the barb and prevent him from chasing you.
manage the barb till u regen enough spirit to engage him a second time.

if the barb has ignore pain activated, it is best to tempest rush away for the 7s duration.
Damage wise if you decide to bell when ignore pain is up, non crit bells will not hurt the barb at all but a crit bell will hurt for 30~60% of the barb hp.

rend dmg from a barb will not hurt at all unless it crits.
when a crit rend does hit you, tempest rush away first so that another rend doesn't land and then cast serenity to deny the rend.
use potions and/or swap to the daibo to heal back to full hp.

you'll need to learn to be able to fool the barb and dodge certain spells like stomp, spear, charge and leap.
these are dangerous as those allows the barb to jump on you out of nowhere.
hug a wall and zigzag. don't run in a predictable path.

Hope you all have fun one-shotting barbs!

This is a fun build. lol Tried something like this before. It works good on some barbs. Insane burst dmg. Never thought about that fear BoH.

Wait. Do we regen life when we TR away with LPSS daibo????

And I used to call something like this build as Bell Sniper. Bell Cannon sounds funny lol

This build is super godly for pub games too. Like killing all 3 others. Lol

I'm here now, we can all relax. Thanks for finally taking the initiative Jin, haha :)

Hunter, have you dueled Jook yet? He lol'd at my bell build, but my gear isn't godly, so maybe you can do better :P If I had 250k dps in pvp gear, I bet I could kill him with less than 10 bells! LMAO

8. I don’t like Near Death Experience. If you are losing the fight with this passive, it’s much better to take other passive that actually help you during the fight. This passive does NOT help you in fight. It’s just a little cushion, that’s it.

I actually am gonna have to take issue with this, Jin :(

For monks like me (poor), I find I can destroy people who vastly outgear me simply by running Divine Protection and NDE in addition to my regular build. Sometimes there will be a DH that will impale me for 300k, but normally the dmg reduction from divine protection will keep me alive long enough to either win or get a CD i need back up.

In many situations, though, I agree - there are lots of great passives.

yeah this was the sniper monk i said in the other thread where explosive light is a targetable spell.
but i think i like the word cannon better coz it packs more firepower. dun know how it seems funny to you lol.
i've 3v1 barbs in pub game before and they all got smashed.

of course the daibo will help to accelerate your hp regen while you tr away. when i get to one safe corner, i'll also swap in another 60+lpps/2.4+spiritregen madstone and you'll see my hp go up from nothing to full in 5-10 sec.
these 2 gears acts like a fountain of health/spirit in 1v1 duel.

lol i wanted too so badly but he ran the other day. didnt even let me test on him.

not being cocky though, so far no barbs could withstand my crit bells.
im still looking for barb to tank my crit bell so i can go back to the drawing block.

This, to me, is what PVP is really shaping up to be so far. I do the same thing, gear swaps at opportune times to refill or whatever.

BTW, you say lpps, jin says LPSS...I'm assuming you mean LPS, life per second? Or is it life/spirit spent? If so, how are you regenning health in 5-10 sec with life/spirit spent?

Well, you know, I don't doubt it. My gear is awful compared to most people (I'm poor), but I'm good enough of a player that I can compensate against *most* people. But there's those barbs every once in a while...

What makes Jook so good, isn't the 200k+ health...That's normal nowadays for a good barb. It's the 5.6k health per second. If my exploding palm didn't crit, it didn't do any dmg. And if it did, (this is with 1400+ skorn with 190 CHD), it went down VERY. SLOWLY. haha. Plus 12% dmg rune, plus dropping bells, etc...took me 30 sec minimum to get him low. To be fair though, if I got lucky with crits, I could do fairly well. I got him down to about 30% at best. Had to palm, SSS, bell, run - rinse and repeat. If they didn't crit - he'd heal to full too fast. He had about 90k dps and around 200k health with that regen + stormshield when I dueled him.
