I'm confused... so diablo is optimized for 2 cores? I know wow is optimized for quad cores. Isn't the gpu smart enough to allot sources on its own in a quad proc?

I have fairly high end specs with a quadcore and the game seemed fairly laggy for me as well. I suspected it was my low end video cards but I put a lot of the settings pretty low.
My processor is a Intel Core i7. When I look at the process list and try to change the affinity it shows me 8 CPUs (labeled 0-7).

??? Some of your information must be wrong.

The whole idea doesn't even make sense to me anyway. How could disabling processing power make anything go faster...?

I know it doesnt make sense. But disable down to 2 cores and give it a try. You will see that it fixes everything and you can pump your gfx back up.

i7 "shows" 8 cores due to hyperthreading... other processors dont have that.

it does make sense :D I get it now!

some processors scale their speed with the amount of cores being used. Less cores used = more GHz on the used ones. This is for cooling reasons.

it's a really great tip, going to test it now :>

I'm actually have the exact same issue as the original poster with a pretty solid build, so I will try this when I get home as well and report back with the results.

think i can do same for my triple core? i get slow motion lag in groups, especially with wizards

Setup:
AMD Anthlon II x3 440 rana 3.2Ghz
Nvidia Gtx 460 hawk twin frozr
8Gb DDR 2 ram

my rig should be perfectly fine for this game... i mean i play crisis maxed with maxed AA in control panel
i tried putting Nvidia control panel to default but still no luck
