the idea you're getting at is projection, and it is "a defense mechanism in which a person unconsciously rejects his or her own unacceptable attributes by ascribing them to objects or persons in the outside world instead."
the entire concept of projection involves the person not accepting their flaws or rejecting that they exist.
if he's "reflecting" his flaws, he'd be conscious and aware of his flaws and thus simply choosing to believe that everyone possesses the same characteristics (based on the definition of "reflect").
