Not sure if true, but from what I heard the most basic recent computer monitors have a better picture than most the higher end TVs you can get.

Also that's true about monitors. Mostly because you have the same amount of pixles on your display, it's just over a smaller area. Monitors also have better response times, but HDTV tech is catching up now anyways.
