Preference I guess. If you can handle the recoil, don't use grip. I can't say I notice a big difference with the longbarrel, though.

longbarrell should only help smgs and shotties mainly. and most smg whores use silencer so...

With the exception of the MSMC, in which case it's pure preference.
e/ Since you asked why:
Long barrel only increases range by 17%, which is a big deal if trying for 1-2 hit KO's with a Shotgun, but less of a big deal for an SMG, since it'll only reduce the number of bullets at very specific distances, while grip allows you to keep on target more easily, especially over medium/long ranges where SMGs have more issues. The MSMC I would say is an exception because it not only has the lowest and most managable recoil, but it also has the longest 3 and 4 bullet kill range (14m and 28m respectively). And since long barrel works off a percentage, a higher base means a larger increase.
