I can answer this for you.
Shields: Anything with+2 paladin skills, or 30/20 block with prismatic (anything more is good).
Helms: Grim helms, bone helms, grand crowns with FHR, +life, resists
Armors: FHR/Life/Resists (str is bonus)
boots: FHR/FRW/dual-tri resists (dex is bonus)
Rings: (this really varies) Fcr/resists/str/life/mana/dex <---any of those. I'm not sure what type of rings barbs use.
Amulets: +2 skills/anything decent, prismatic and +life
Battle Hammers: More than 150 dmg
Ancient Axe: more than 200 dmg
This is all I know from my experience. I've only just recently turned back to classic after not playing classic for MENY MENY YEER!
