Hey everyone I started lifting weights again regularly after taking a 3 year break. I lifted from age (13-26) 4-7 times a week on average, age (18-22) was supervised by a very good weight lifting coach, although I definitely didn't get the strength gains with this coach as I would on my own ( could because of sports related focus from coach in training sessions). When I left off at 26 I hit 6x deadlifts raw at 455lbs, bench 315 x 4 raw, and squat about the same as bench, at 6"5 235. I'm lifting now for general strength and physique.

I've gotten to the point were I can do reps to failure again on 3-6 sets with 8-20 reps as per lift. My approach is I generally just smash 3 different muscles a day, with about 1-2 sessions of 30 minute cardio per week ( swim or stairs ), and give muscles about 3 days of recovery (more/less depending on how I feel).

I came to a realization yesterday that maybe I shouldn't be taking this approach, and I should alternate between failure and easy days, and that failing all the time is hurting my progress. Anyone have good insight on this??

Talking bodybuilding (which is sort of what you are aiming for is you aim for strength and physique), Lee Haney 8x Mr. O said stimulate, not annihilate.

If you do decide to annihilate, surely don't do this all the time.

Your nervous system might be hurting.
