Hello. I just got ultrasound done very recently. The reason is because I feel that there is pain in my upper left abdomen. However, when I went in for the test, the technician only ran her wand straight down the middle of my belly, and on the sides as I lied on my side. She didn't run her wand over the area that hurt, which I told her about at the beginning. Then once it was done, I even asked her specifically if she captured the area that hurt and she said yes. I didn't argue with her but I kind of was not very happy about it.

I am just wondering if she did a poor job or if she was telling the truth that she also captured that area despite not having moved her wand in that area at all. Thanks.

i'm guessing the sound waves don't just propagate along the wand. If she was trained to do abdominal ultrasounds I'm sure the areas she ran the wand were sufficient

I see. Thanks for the reply.

Have you got ultrasound done before? Did they move the wand everywhere?

I am concerned because my mother also had it done but she told me they moved the wand all over her belly.

I don't think I've ever had an ultrasound. I would assume ultrasounding a pregnant woman for a view of the baby is a lot different than what you had done. I'm not in medicine though

Depending on the echography probe, it can acquire images 15-25 cm+ deep. So even a slight tilt on the midline can make it so you see everywhere.
Technicians are trained to acquire specific angles/views depending on the type of the exam that was asked by your doctor.

It is probably fine!
