I haven't been in this forum in ages, has this topic been discussed/flamed? Curious to know how many are doing this regularly.

The problem with CrossFit is that most people who start are beginners or have minimal lifting experience and the whole idea of it is to make people perform complex Olympic lifts as fast as they can for reps or doing movements with momentum which can grind on joints. If you can get past that and somehow perform clean reps then it’s a fantastic way to lift and do cardio.

I’ve had plenty of crossfitters as patients though.

I do this by putting all new members into an intro program where we teach the fundamentals.
then based off of their absorption of the motor patterns, we load or stay unloaded. safety is a big priority, and ends up being very effective if athletes can remove their ego from the situation.

Your last sentence says it all though...

Literally nobody can put their ego aside. If you haven’t lifted longer than a year or two you are going to chase that next milestone.

Also most crossfit gyms do groups and not 1 on 1 training so you’re not catching every single rep. Cardio is also thrown into the mix so people are gassed when they’re doing these movements.

Like I said though, I think it’s an amazing way to lift and get cardiorespiratory training in. I just don’t think everyone and their mother should be doing it.

Someone who sticks it out for a month or so to be progressed to weights are going to be pushing harder. Day 1 clients will slack off

Not sure how true, but I heard that doing crossfit is correlated with being closet gay.
