Is this a very biased documentary or is it the real deal? Kind of shocking to see the diabetes doctors refusing to talk about diet and just getting angry.
I haven't watched it, but from what you describe i would suggest taking it with a grain of salt. Soft anti-medicine Big Pharma conspiracy theories are hard to distinguish from the actual dirty things done in the medical and pharmaceutical field, but they sell very good. The best lies (or misconceptions) are often hidden within the truth. There are however numerous problems in the US health care system, so i wouldn't bash the documentary right away especially if it concerns US health care.
Diabetes is prevented through optimal nutrition and avoiding becoming overweight, and mild type 2 diabetes is primarily attempted to treat through lifestyle choices which include weight loss and diet, especially with a focus on avoiding bad fats. These procedures also reduce the chances of getting coronary disease, whose likelihood diabetes increases. If that doesn't work and the condition seems to progress to the worse, then you need medications to prevent secondary complications such as retinal, kidney and peripheral nerve damage. The more obese the individual, the more likely he/she needs support from medications.
This post sparked my interest towards watching the documentary, though. I might try to find the time to watch it!
