Ive had a bunch of plates laying around for a while, I'm thinking about picking up a hex bar to train legs with.

Anybody ever try using a hex bar for doing deadlifts and squats?
I'm wondering if this would be a decent option for working legs out at home.

Or is this a dumb idea.

its the middle ground for both, might as well get a barbell if you are going to buy equipment and dont already have the hexbar on hand

A hex bar dl is like a hybrid movement between a deadlift and squat

Its a deadlift type movement but since the weight is centred over you u can be far more upright and you squat the weight up. Thats why if you train both movements, your hexbar DL will always be considerably stronger than your bb deadlift. Also if ur using the high handles then that even more so puts you at a mechanical advantage

tl:dr yeh do it

Yeah, I already have the bb, just no squat rack. I figured if I was trying to load it up heavy, it wasn't worth the risk of injury trying for squats without one. Was considering going with a homegym route since I saw a good weight range of hex dumbbells with a free rack at $0.50 per pound on Craigs to get a good start on things.

But maybe I'll hold off on that. It's kinda nice to have the other options at the gym at times besides free weights even if they're what I mostly use.

Also figured could use the hex bar for farmers walks as Ghetto stated.
Maybe I'll still pick one up for kicks, can do some more legs at home, and doing farmers at home. My gym doesn't have one.
Always kinda felt like a tool strutting around doing them with dumbbells at the gym when others were present. Lol

Thanks for the input guys!

I would use it as an accessory, not to supplement a main lift.

If Stan Efferding throws these into his leg day routine, you can too!
