Imho routines can't be looked at as blueprints to success. They're just sample instructions, and you have to discover if those instructions work for you. Some routines are more universal than others.
Even the underlying principles from which routines are based can't be looked at as the blueprints to success. Rep ranges, resting schemes, and tempo don't necessarily mean the same thing for everyone.
I'll give an example: How many routines say "Keep doing this exercise while you're feeling it. If the pump is great, keep it up. Do drop sets, or anything to keep the pump going. Do assisted cheating if you need. Do 5 extra unplanned sets of the same thing if you need." I don't know of many that would say that. Most say "4x 8-12 reps _____", and things change from week to week, or in cycles.
I've never been a fan of push/pull routines. I think they're too contrived for someone who just wants to build aesthetic or pure lifting strength.
