Hello there all!

I'm interested in looking to lose weight and I'm asking for some advice about food choices and caloric intake.

I'm a student full time and generally work between 25-35 hours a week depending on the time of the year and how many people we have available.
I probably have enough money now to start some sort of exercise, other than just biking, walking or running now which why I'm considering pursuing this.

In high school I was in track all 4 years. I was around 185 lbs 5'8" when I graduated. I was in pretty decent shape. Could bench 215, squat and dead somewhere in 400s *these are machine amounts* and legpress around 1.1k lbs. My mile time was around 5:30-6:00 and my sprint was 12 for 100m meter and like 25 for 200m.
First years of college I still ran and went to gym. I also played a lot of soccer, and stayed in shape.

But now that I'm near graduation... I've let myself go these last two years. I still have a decent amount of strength *I'm pretty sure I max around 175-185 bench now* and endurance (for my lack and activity and weight). I mean I REALLY let myself go. I probably weigh between 205-215 (I'm not sure, no scale at home).

My life habits aren't too good. I mainly eat really shitty because I'm too lazy to prepare healthy meals.

I'd like some advice on what to start with during this winter time. Is it even productive to do push ups and sit ups? I used to focus on them in high school but I don't really feel like they have their merit. Maybe I should invest in some free weights? (from 25-50, so I could train biceps, chest, triceps, and shoulders pretty easily)? I wouldn't even need the gym... Thinking about it.

I love to bike but its too cold now, and i mainly didn't bike during autum because of the heavy school and work load... I often biked around 15-25 mile trips 2-4 times a week during the summer. I didnt' really lose too much weight still because of poor eating habits.

Any1 have a meal ideals that are quick and easy to make with what is in a normal pantry or fridge?

So I did some reading of this faq. It seems that I should probably eat 2k calories a day, as my daily burn is probably between 2500-2900 depending on whether or not I'm working that day.
It also stated that doing some lifting is better for metabolism than cardio which appeals to me pretty well. I was thinking, as I previously stated, about doing some free weight exercises. I have a bench in the basement. I'm only familiar with lunges for leg free weight exercises. I'm not really looking into doing any dead or squats as I'm not an athlete anymore... What sort of free weight leg exercises are there? I also get plenty of cardio from walking. I walk a lot.

Kind of want to help, but then I also feel like this is a troll with the numbers that you posted.

If you're going to college, you have access to a decent gym for free. Use it instead of buying your own weights or doing body weight stuff.

You don't have to be an athlete to do deads and squats. Quite honestly, everyone and their mother should be doing squats.

Look up a Push/Pull/Leg routine or Starting Strength.

Count calories.

See you in the summer when you're swole.

college is 40 minutes away so not really an option. I'm always too worn out or tired to want to workout then drive home late at night or have work right after midday.

The numbers aren't troll though.

The sprinting numbers arnt that fast, and I can't tell if he thinks ur lifting numbers are trolls because they are too high or if they are too low, they are just middle range

Edit: interested in what a machine deadlift is.. Is that on a smith machine?

Yeah buying a bunch of dumbbells is a much better option then.

A 17 year old putting up those numbers is extremely rare, especially when they're on the track team.

Track team means he is athletic and fast twitch muscle fibres.. Perfect candidate for lifting

Plus, it's machine weight. Aka irrelevent aka can take 150 lbs of those numbers making them in line with his bench numbers
