I now live over an hour away from the only gym in town (YMCA) and need to look at home gym ideas. I would just get free weights but girlfriend won't use them, so that option is out. Looking for something that will fit in an 8x12 room that will be dedicated for that purpose, so it could take the entire space.

I was thinking about something simple, like a Total Gym or the much cheaper and equally functional (I think?) Weider Ultimate Body Works.

I don't like Bowflex at all, because here in Maine the temperature of our home can be 85 in the summer and 50 in the winter, and according to reviews, the bands gain/lose resistance when the temperature changes.

The other option is one of the larger gym replacement models that may/may not even fit in my available space.

Anyways... any suggestions would be great, don't wanna spend 6 months looking at options xD

Lose the girlfriend and get a squat rack and a bench to put in it.

tbh I would recommend looking into Rogue's racks & rigs

I am setting up with them soon for the PT side of my home business

A really good universal set is fine so long as you can get enough weight on it but I think Olympic lifts are numero uno

What would signify a really good universal gym in your mind? It's really pretty god damned irritating. She doesn't want to use anything that requires changing weights on a bar. Idc if I have to spend $4,000+ as long as it fits in the space we have. Would make up for it not paying for 2 people's gym fees.

I'd love something like that but gf wouldn't touch it and I'm the one trying to get her to use it so -,-

lol i just have battle ropes 135lbs in weights. 4 bars 3 different sizes.

pull up bar. small 60lb bag. wooden bar with some rope for some forearm workouts

I do some shady stuff to work out my chest and legs.

I mostly hold on to weights and workout my legs on the stairs.

So i can bring any of this stuff with me anywhere and throw it in any closet. Doesnt take much space.

I still hit up the gym from time to time just to get sore from those machines.

The most expensive thing out of that was the battle ropes. 100$ onsale and those are just great for boxing endurance or just getting big ass shoulders/arms. You even work out your back and chest.

Total it cost me like 300$ and i got everything high end. Kettle bell was 35$ for a 45lb ball.

Cheap as fuck and you can literally just throw it under ur bed. Ur girlfriend can workout with a littel kettle bell too.

Get her some bands and shit.

I am literally the hardest working lazy person ever. A home gym will be the best decision of your life.

If you're fat and lazy right now. Just get on HGH for like a week and get off of it right away.

Then you'll want to work out all the time.

That testosterone boost is awesome.

Also a week of HGH will HOPEFULLY prevent you from having a elevated heart rate @ rest. So that's why i said 1 week.

Good luck man

get it done a hopefully you can fuck your girlfriend while you both workout

the hardest part is making a squat rack.

a good set of dbs, a solid barbell setup with plates, and a curl bar (not really necessary but i love it) will cover a lot of ground no need for a bench, db presses are fine (check out scooby's video on this)

yoga mat is nice for stretches, pushups, etc.

i welded/bolted together a metal pullup bar from a bigass oak tree in my back yard, do lat raises off my couch, use a board of mdf for doing bicep isolation curls. put a lagbolt/eyehook thing in a stud in my ceiling and attach the heavy bag with chains an a heavy duty carabiner to it. you'll find a way to use your environment.

it'll save you a lot of time in the long run. it's so nice being able to work out while watching netflix whenever the fuuuuck you want.

good luck
