I'm just curious how this works.

1. Is it that this week is just the strongest you've ever been? the past blocs have given you the muscular adaptation needed to make you stronger, and now you're ready to set PR'S

or

2. Some sort of magical boost of strength just for that week because of the way the blocs are setup?

Peaking is all about SRA + getting used to Heavy weights after building your foundation with a lot of volume. (SRA= Stimulus, Recovery, Adaptation)

So that week your (neural adaptation?) is primed for heavy lifting? so theoretically if you had the same strength you'd perform better after a full bloc, rather than something like a linear program then deload then compete?

This is just to increase my knowledge, but just wondering is there a way to do a a shortened bloc if you had a comp in under 2 weeks?

A block is just a way to describe a period of training dedicated to a specific goal like volume/intensity/recovery/Conditioning/...

Within a block you will find linear progression and could find linear periodization. In the Peaking process you will have OVERALL linear periodization even if you don't have it within each blocks. (Exemple: B1 work with X rep range and B2 work more with X-2. But within the block you don't take reps off).

Ex:
Linear periodization within a block:
w1. 4x8
w2. 4x8
w3. 5x6
w4. 5x6
w5. 6x4
w6. 6x4
w7. 4x3
w8. 3x2
w9. Meet

Overall Linear periodization from block to block:
Block 1: Volume
w1. 3x8
w2. 4x8
w3. 5x8
w4. 5x8

Block 2: Intensification
w6. 5x5
w7. 5x5
w8. 5x5
w9. 5x5

Block 3: Realization
w10. 4x4
w11. 3x3
w12. 2x2
w13. Meet

Even if you focus on a specific goal/rep range/sets it's still Linear periodization if you look at it. Add daily undulation to it and you get better adaptation through phases because you keep attributes from the previous blocks for a longer period of time. You also get to use heavy weights earlier in your prep than standard linear periodization.

That actually makes a lot more sense, thanks a lot Aube!
