If you're not looking to be competitive, and to just get from Point A to Point B, pretty much any ol' bike will do.

The bike you listed ^ there sounds perfectly doable. Hell, from the sound of it, you're not really gonna need a 21 speed bike, anyways; if you can find a better deal that has fewer bells and whistles (21 speeds, mud guards, etc), do it up. But, again, the bike you listed sounds doable, for your needs.

It's been a hot minute since I've been in the cycling game, but once upon a time, Trek had a number of good quality, entry-level framesets. There's probably other peeps here that are more active than I am that could advise you on what the current market looks like.

i was kind of in the same situation as you are a few months ago. i have found that fixed gear/single speed bikes are a good way to get a road style bike without the cost of a massive drive train and all that shit. you get a simple, durable and lightweight bike with a single gear that will really give you an appreciation for any hilly terrain in your area.

californian company, bikes are just shy of 500 dollars CAN a pop brand new (after shipping and all that shit) but they work really well and are pretty sturdy. you can get any of their fixies with bullhorn style handle bars (i have and prefer) that will give you a lower profile for riding fast. all hubs i believe come with two gears, one each side. one is fixed and one is free so if you dont like the idea of having no break other than your pedals (like me), it comes with a hand break on the back wheel and you can just free wheel

mm yea what do u think is a good gear range? I mostly drive everywhere and havent really noticed any possibly troublesome vert hills, there is the odd gradually increasing incline road though

is a back wheel hand break really necessary? srs question btw

and wouldnt a single gear make me hate the hilly terrain? haha

mm yeah, went to the bike store and the cheapest road bike they have is 900$ lol

and everyone trying to sell their bikes seem to either be selling a $1200 bike for 600, or a 400$ 10 year old bike for like 100-200 .. not too comfortable spending any money on an old bike tbh, probably rather get a slightly crappier one with the added warranty

You could look at it that way or you could also see it as giving you the best workout of your life
