whats up fellas. as my semester is coming to a close, i want to sort of challenge myself to see how much weight i can lose by the time school starts back up again. i am really out of shape right now (5'11", 250 lbs), but plan to start limiting myself to 1200 calories a day. also, as i start my new job this summer, i will have a somewhat steady schedule that will allow for me to start going to the gym 2-3 times a week. if i'm simply trying to cut fat and lose weight, how bad would it be if i were to only use the stationary bikes? i really don't like running or swimming so using those bikes is the only cardio that would interest me.

over 4 months of eating 1200 calories a day (total) starting at 5'11" 250 lbs and going to the gym at least 2 times a week to bike for an hour, what would be a realistic expectation of possible weight loss?

1200 calories is excessively low and will be more detrimental than helpful.

At 511 250 lbs I would start at 2500 strict cals coming from fairly lean foods with a sufficient protein carb and fat mix with high fibre content and little simple sugars.

Mix your weight sessions with light cardio and prepare yourself for a longer journey than you are expecting.

really? i lost a ton of weight when i dropped myself to 1200 calories a day (320 lbs to 210 lbs) but gained back a bunch of weight this semester. 2500 feels like a lot of food, i only really wanna eat as much as i need to eat to not be tired all the time. is 2500 a good amount for that?

Of course you would drop weight by starving yourself when you were 320 lbs and consuming that type of diet, the basis of losing weight is to burn more calories than you consume through a mix of exercise and calorie deficit.

You will lose weight eating 1200 calories but you will most likely feel even more tired due to lack of nutrition for such a big body frame unless you are literally a vegetable and do not move from your bed all day which is not what I gather you are going to be doing.

The main reason why you gained a ton of weight is because you ate more than what your body needs

okay thanks for that info. onto the next question, how much weight training should i involve if im focusing very heavily on losing fat instead of building muscle? i intend to cut to remove a bunch mroe body fat before i start focusing on lifting.

Whatever you feel comfortable with and that works with your schedule- have you ever worked out before?

Generally as a new person to the gym you can do a starting strength program that follows a 3x a week schedule that focuses on big lifts (squats, bench press, deadlifts) and include some accessories.

Your progression will come from this plus regular cardio sessions and a better diet.

Also I wouldn't worry a whole lot about posting high numbers with your lifts and focus on form- this will help in the long run.

ur saying u want to eat 1200 calories a day, that is extremely low

curious, around how many calories a day on average were u eating to get to 250 lbs?

at least 3000 calories probably... if not much more

no reason to cut so many calories all at once

Nice to have goals, but I think you're just trying to write it on paper and have it mapped out and see what people think, like "will I lose 40lbs a month?"

Think you won't stick to this as its over zealous, lift weights, do cardio, and eat clean at 1800 calories (totally guess here lol)

1200 is wayyyyy too low. At 1200 don't go ride a bike for an hour or even do anything period
