they get in the normal starting position, lift all the way up, then drop the entire barbell to the ground from waist high

god damnit and i was doing my final set today of 5x285 and i rounded my back on the 2nd rep and now my lower back hurts. rip

Are they repeatedly doing this or are they bailing?

If I have to bail that's usually where I bail (before locking out)

I'm sure a quick google search will give the answer if they are constantly doing this, perhaps the muscles worked in their partial deadlift is what they are focusing on.
OR
If they look beta, it's probably because they are beta lifters

yeah but what im saying is i dont understand why anybody would do that. There might be a reason.

Because deadlifts is only the lift up, not the lift back down (like a squat and bench is both down and up)

The risk vs reward of lowering a heavy deadlift is not worth it

No good deadlifters ever lower their deadlift, ever, ever

Edit: i hope u see the correlation of u injurying yourself and trying to lower your deadlift

Personally, i control the the lowering of the deadlift too, i never let it crash.
