So I plan on getting cerfified this summer and being a Personal Trainer.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever used one and how much did you pay?

Specifically any in Tennessee?

Trying to price comp

Some around here in my town run 15 bucks for half an hour and 30 dollars for an hour. Then there's group pricing.

Thank you for the helpful answers!

I think most gyms you'd work for would have their own set prices and they would just pay you a percentage.. some might have a deal where you pay them so much a month and you can train however many clients you want and set your own price as long as they have a membership.

This. If you are training at a gym, especially a commercial, they are just going to pay you a fraction of what they charge. If you are going to bring in your own clients, you will be expected to pay a fee to the gym owner. Last thing you want to do is to train people under the table at a gym.

Haven't used a personal trainer, would much rather hire a coach if I was going to do a serious prep, but the commercial gyms I have been to typically charge around $60-100 for a 30-60min session once a month. I travel to Tennessee quite a bit for work and the gyms I have been to have been pretty empty. Seems like a small market compared to other areas, which may explain why the rates you posted are cheap.

No, never will.

Never met a "personal trainer" who doesn't like to talk about their vision and approach to working out. Just ask one in a gym about his / her business model.

Also, are you physically in shape to be a personal trainer?

I do believe I am. Bmi is 29. Something, 10.6% bodyfat at 206, 5' 11''
Have pics to prove this. I'm not in the "cutting" stage yet.

Thank you all for the responses!

I live in florida so not your state. But I go to LA fitness gym 4 to 5 days a week so I got one of their certified trainers. It's 55$ a session for 30 minutes. The first session was am hour long to get where I was and what I wanted and to do some measurements. My personal trainer has been a trainer for 7 years. He is physically just an average gym guy not super cut or anything. He's really focused on perfect form and doing the correct exercises instead of just pounding on weight. In the 4 months I have had him I have seen a ton of improvement. Each week we hit a different muscle and go through different exercises to "confuse" my muscles. It's really basic but I wasn't very knowledgeable on weight lifting so i definitely felt it was worth.
