so MRI results show a small intraosseous within the bone cyst in humeral head

i knew something was wrong... doctor said theres no tear thought.

report says:
small intraosseous cryst within the posterior aspect of the humeral head
and minimal supraspinatus tendinopathy

"the supraspinatus tendon shows minimal increased signal within the distal fibers compativle with tendinopathy"

where are you at anatomy experts of HNF!

how are these treated? are they serious? i am in constant pain. she only told me to take anti inflammatory pills for now until i see an orthopedic... she really didnt say anything about treatment, i asked and she just kept saying see orthopedic. maybe shes not legally allow to suggest treatment for it?

was an interesting read

scary, i guess it seems the only option is surgery or cortisone shot? but the cortisone shot im pretty sure is temporary

do these cysts ever leave on their own?

bone cysts are fairly common as far as i know and essentially just a nuisance. the pain will bother you but with treatment you'll be fine. a cyst is just a fluid filled cavity within a tissue. some people get cystic kidneys, some get them on their ovaries. you have one in the bone of your humerus. surgery is probably a last line thing, they will try to treat it with meds first (if he said cortisone then steroids first) and if that works, great. if not, relatively minor surgery to evacuate the fluid.

ok wow thanks

but its like in the bone. so they gotta go past tendons and into the bone. i feel like thats not all that minor? i think read recovery time is like 3 to 6 months :( and its possible the cyst just reforms?

im wondering if the pain is from the cyst or the tendinopathy? or can the cyst have caused the tendinopathy?

u said meds, like any oral meds? or they have to be injected to the cyst?

thanks though, u make it seem not so bad!

i mean yes because its a cyst the ortho would have to dissect the shoulder to the point where he gets easy access to the cyst, and then somehow cut through the bone tissue to the cyst (i would assume using a very fine drill) and drain the fluid. relatively minor as in there isnt much risk of puncturing major vasculature (unless its really close to the axillary artery), its in a limb so youre away from organs. its not really high pressure surgery like cardiothoracic or neurovascular surgery, the surgeon has probably done hundreds or thousands of cyst drainages. yeah recovery would be a bitch but you arent going to suffer due to this cyst unless you cant take a lil pain. cortisone can probably be oral or injection but i would think they would want maybe an intracapsular injection for this, not sure im not a med student.

wow thanks ^_^

i dont think the axillary artery is near the posterior humeral head? i looked at diagram real quick for that artery, and seems its mostly lower than it?

true its probably not a life threatening surgery, but theres always the chance of severing something that causes permanent loss of movement or feeling or something that prevents me from lifting ever again

not being able to lift itsnt the end of the world, but its honestly a big deal to me. ive been out of gym over 6 months now and its honestly very upsetting. i dont dwell on it, but at first i felt sort of powerless, being so young and unable to do something sort of basic as lift weight up and put it down. i really enjoy the gym... well at least i did enjoy it

hopefully this can be resolved without surgery. but i thought that cortisone shots are temporary. i think i read something that can be injected that lowers the production of some chemical that would allow the cyst to be reabsorbed back into the bone and leave. i hope....

no axillary a is relatively anterior, i missed the posterior aspect bit.
