Just got a fitbit HR. I didn't get it to track calories burned, but I would like to get the data in order. To preface, the heart rate monitor (for me) has been very accurate. Every time I check my pulse manually it's bang on with the device.

My issue: The damn thing says that I exercised for 240 minutes today because my heart rate was above 110 bpm for almost 4 hours straight. I was at work, on my feet for almost 4 hours straight and stressed, but I wasn't walking at a brisk pace. The thing registers me as having exercised since my heart rate was between 110 and 140 bpm consistently for 4 hours. Today was stressful. The calorie counter says that I had burned a total (including BMR) of 4400 calories today... that's just bull shit there is no way, I didn't actually work out today.

Anyone have any input on the fitbit HR and how to get more accurate data interpretation?

i have a fitbit charge HR.. you can adjust your exercise zones on the site, i think defult is cardio starts at like 110 fat burn at 140 and peak at like 170 or something i could be wrong.. but you can adjust that stuff. Make sure you also have it set to whichever hand you have it on to make it less or more sensitive. I found that mine took about a week to start getting everything right. But occasionally it will say that i exercised when i haven't, even when i wasnt wearing it once.

there are many physiological functions that influence HR, while vo2 is one of them there are too many other confounding factors to correlate HR directly to energy expenditure throughout the day. its essentially useless for calorie estimation

Sort of..

As long as you use it consistently you can get good data.

The calorie amount is most likely wrong BUT you can use it relatively...

Like it says I burned 3000, 3000, 3000, 3300, 3300, 3300, 3600, 3600.

And if you're weighing yourself say twice a day... You can start to get a picture of how your weight is moving based on the number this thing is spitting you, whether it's right or not.

That's how I use mine at least.
