I'm joining a special ops unit soon (3 months) after having served in normal infantry. The cardio there used to be pretty lame and not hard at all, 2 miles in 12 minutes. However, now they upped the standards up to 2 miles in 10 minutes as well as a 300 meter spring in 45 seconds. I've been bulking so I haven't been doing cardio at all. My question is, how can I keep doing the cardio needed without losing muscle mass. And yes, I know "calories in>calories burnt" etc. Just looking for a more in depth answer.

Rowing is great (concept2 not barbell) for increasing your workcapacity. Don't know how great it transfers to running though.
HIIT is imo best for ''not losing weight'' but still gain some stamina/speed.

2 miles in 12 minutes is bad cardio? since when?

a 6 minute mile is pretty good no? to do 2 miles with that average is great.

6 min mile pretty good?

thats fukin more than most of muricans

most normal decent shape people can prob do 10-15 min miles

going to 6 minute is with decent training

then u say its not just 1 mile at 6 but 2....

Sounds dubious. Even Rangers can pass the two mile with 15 minutes.
