I'm working on building a gym... I got a bunch of standard plates for free, so I was wondering what the downside would be to me using that instead of Olympic gear. I bench under 200 and squat under 300 so I don't think weoght would be a problem for a while.

length is one thing, Olympic bars tend to be longer

They might make 7 foot standard bars but I've never seen one

Walmart I know... But I'd rather go with cheaper now and save for nicer stuff once I'd actually benefit from it...if there's not a huge difference that is

I wouldn't go cheap on a bar. Not saying you have to spend a crap ton, but most standard bars you see at a gym are 45 lbs and that one isn't even 20 lbs I wouldn't trust it.

is there a max weight limit on bars? like stated on it or when its bought
i mean if it doesn't say it has a limit and it does something to hurt him, there could be a law suit

A few hundred bucks for even 5 years of consistent use is well worth it.
