Hey i don't usually post here but i see this sub likes to throw quick input on general questions so here i go-

I recently started tracking my macros and glanced over this app on my phone that also tracks sodium and i guess other micros (correct term?) and it turns out i'm looking at 4000 to 6000 mg a day in sodium (the 6k is nowhere near as frequent as the 4k though)

Day to day i feel fine (i sweat daily with cardio) and not really planning on cutting it down unless there are some benefits to it like saving me from a heart attack 30 or 40 years down the road

Any feedback appreciated

i think the average person takes like 4k mg a day?

you should be fine B.

edit: actually what source are you getting the sodium from?

Well the 5 to 6k days usually come from sunflower seeds and the rest seems to just add up from general "american food" (potatoes/ meats/ tortillas/ cheese/ macaroni/ shit you name it ill eat it). And honestly i add hotsauce to alot of stuff which i don't even count on the phone app so it could be a bit higher than what its even reading.

Today i went heavy on the cardio and worked up an appetite and i'm reading 3385 calories for the day/ usually sit in the 2.5k range so the high sodium might come from a bunch of food being consumed.

An excessive salt intake promotes fluid retention which increases blood volume which raises blood pressure. What's your potassium intake?

That's on the low side. You should definitely try to reduce your sodium intake if you regularly take in that much.

lets not get out of control here lol.

this guy isnt going to kill himself eating 4000mg of sodium a day lol.

he should clean his diet up, yes.

lets not scare him for no reason though.

the quality of the foods you say youre eating are probably a bigger problem than your sodium intake.. clean that diet up B!

Yeah meant to say long term excess sodium intake is the problem. That said the avg diet is maintained for a long time hence the added risk to heart disease so it shouldn't be understated either.

have you seen the new lit coming out questioning the salt recommendations? theyre talking about making 4-6k the new recommendation for most people. it seems you can somewhat arbitrarily categorize people as salt sensitive or insensitive because some people see a slight increase in bp from sodium intake and some dont, and there may be detrimental consequences in terms of circulation to too little salt intake as well
