Hey guys so I was 260 lbs about a year and a half ago
I'm around 185 atm, and I have been told several times I will never be "like that" (not 100% sure exactly what this is supposed to mean)
I'm 5 11, broad shoulders...
My upper legs are still pretty fat and obviously still have man boobs etc. I was told today that "I should start building muscle and stop trying to lose weight"
though I do want to gain muscle I find it hard to get the motivation together and I like doing cardio.

I'm kind of confused, will I be able to lose the fat on my upper legs/will I be able to lose man boobs? I'm kind of concerned because my goal from the start was to lose man boobs. thank you for your wisdom jsp.

Fat loss isn't sectional.

However, if you start doing resistance training, you will start to create some shape instead of being a blob.

Do that while you cut and you'll find yourself looking more appealing and probably losing fat at a more rapid rate.

I have a bowflex I use a little here and there so I will look into this "resistance training" and see if it is possible with that. I think I still have a ways to go then with weight loss before I have to start building muscle, but if I can do the resistance training I'll give it a go.

Losing weight is one one. Forming muscle and toning up is another.

Man... If you experience that first sweet taste of immense soreness in your muscles the day after hitting weights like you should, you don't want anything else, brother!

RUN!

Running will lose your bewbs and will turn the 'fat' in your legs into muscle.
Best option.

what he means by resistance training is lifting weights, a balanced routine should incorporate weights and cardio if the goal is looks/health and not focusing on a sport

if you were that heavy, it'll be more difficult to get your optimal look if you have loose skin

your best bet is subbing to a gym (not planet fitness) and getting a trainer to build you a good routine to meet your goals

e/ also spot reducing aka remove fat from a specific area doesnt work, you gotta lower your overall bf%

At this point I'd really just like to say "I lost 100 pounds", it will feel like I have really accomplished something.
so far it's not loose probably bc it's taken a while to get to this point.(minus the disgusting arm flaps I have but those have always been there)
I have really avoided gyms, I'm not a very social person and even just going into the store I feel like everyone is watching me... If I come up with a decent routine with the bowflex will that have the same effect?
I've just been running in the mountains and using the exercise bike at home, this will decrease my bf% yes? I know I have lost 70+ lbs but I feel like I don't look that much different which is really disappointing. I should have taken before + after pics :(

Just do push ups/sit-ups/etc at home if you're afraid of the gym

Better than nothing
