hey guys. so ive been going to the gym for 5 weeks now, doing 'kris gethins 12 week program' i know 5 weeks isnt much at all, but ive been pushin myself to the limit, and im seeing little to almost no results. i have a few questions to the lads out there who know their shit.

1) im aiming to gain some lean muscle mass, without getting too far. is this possible? i saw clean bulking is a thing, but you gain muscle so slowly, is there another method?

2) protein shakes/supplements. are there any glaring negatives to this? or is this quite beneficial? i mean i wanted to just go about it naturally, but i guess im fucking something up or it isnt working for me.

3) bulking/cutting, how would i go about doing this? any basic advice would be dope. cheers guys.

5 weeks is not "much at all", it's basically nothing yet.

1) Yes it is possible but you are better off bulking hard if you are a beginner, a little fat gained is ok you can cut later once you have a respectable muscle base

2) Nothing wrong with protein shakes very good way to quickly get 30-40g of protein, highly recommended. As for other supplements creatine is recommended but not required.

3) bulking - eat more calories than your body uses. Cutting - eat less calories than your body uses. A good starting point is going 500 calories over (or under if cutting) and adjusting from there after some weeks

hope that helps, if youd like more specific information this guy is a professional and would be happy to answer your questions for free: http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=21269614&f=60

you don't need to "push yourself to the limit" to make gains in the beginning, if anything it would be counterproductive if you're not recovering. just going to the gym will be enough stimulus to grow in the beginning, if you play all your cards at once what are you gonna do when you stall?
also 5 weeks is basically nothing, don't buy into "6 weeks to shredded" programs and all that shit, it's a long journey if you actually want to do it.

learn how to count macros, browse the nutrition forums and read the sticky posts on bodybuilding forums, learn proper form etc

bro specify your stats. height, weight, age. if you gonna bulk, u need to be at a calorie surplus and vice versa for cutting, 5 weeks aint shit even if your at a huge caloric surplus that gets you 2 lbs gain per week. if your at a calorie surplus, in the end wether u clean bulk or not, you will gain some fat. its inevitable. just fucking eat eat, lift hard get strong as fuck, gain weight then cut when you at ur goal weight.

should focus on improving your technique/weight during lifts for now, your body changes at its own rate, but numbers will speak

you wont be able to lift hundreds of pounds without being muscular

e/ also if youve never lifted seriously before, most of the 'noob gains'' u make come from neurological adaptation (activating more and more motor units for a movement) and not from an increase in muscle mass
