so i had a recurrence of ankle injuries a couple of months ago...i rolled my ankle once and played basketball again thinking my ankle had healed; i re-rolled it one more time (both inversion injuries)..i started barbell squatting on my bad ankle too while i was not 100% which made it worse. i felt some pain when i was jumping aggressively and continued. for more than 2 months now, i haven't done any cardio at all except for lightly walking on the treadmill, and i swam once on Saturday.

there's no swelling, only a bruise and it hurts when i invert my ankle and apply force against it..i am walking with no pain so i don't know wtf is wrong with it..i would like to get this fixed without going to the doctor's if possible.

idk why the pics are rotated. looks good on my laptop.

Ligaments might be damaged

Ankle injuries are the worst. They are reoccurring because when you " roll " your ankle, the ligaments are stretched abnormally and become "loose" or in worst case scenario, torn. And no one properly rehabs after rolling their ankle, they just rest it, ice until the swelling is down, then go back to their routine.

When in reality, you need to be doing exercises that strengthen the ligaments.

While sitting upright, having the foot that is uninjured flat against the ground and your foot that is injured slightly elevated off of the ground, make the alphabets with your toes while keeping your ankle flexed (make the abc's, then ABC's) & draw out the alphabets with your toes while keeping your ankle slightly flexed

Good luck man, the only time I rolled my ankles was when I was playing basketball with people that are overweight. While everyone else is jumping, to grab the boards; they just stand there and unfortunately you land on top of their foot

thanks..an x-ray should suffice? no need an MRI? it's bothersome but i don't think it's severe enough to require surgery. i guess i just have to live with a bad ankle and try to strengthen it.

so when do you recommend to go back to normal activity again? it's been a while already. maybe get a confirmation from the doctor first?

I'm no doctor. I was speaking from experience that I had dealing with this injury so I cant recommend when you can go back to doing normal activity

X-rays cover bones

MRIs cover ligament / tendons

Go see an Orthopedic Surgeon / doctor, they'll examine your ankle. See your range of mobility / pain tolerance and assess you from there.

If he thinks that there may be more to it, he will recommend getting more testing done ( X-Ray, MRI )

If you ever cover NBA injuries, especially those that suffer from ankle injuries have varied times to come back. It all depends on the severity, I've seen people come back in 4 weeks and others come back in 8 weeks.

Let's just hope that you stretched a few ligaments, and all you need to do is rest, ice, keeping it elevated when you go to sleep until the swelling goes down, then when you are able to walk on it comfortably; begin your rehab.

your first mistake was thinking that it would be better a few days after you rolled it the first time. the number one reason for reinjury is because idiots think they can just go straight back to exercise or whatever they were doing a day or two later

well it doesn't hurt at all when i walk on it. it only hurts when i push hard against it in the inverted position..

1.5 weeks till you start mobilizing any ligament injury imo, and mobilizing doesnt mean go running or squatting it means light ROM exercises. if theres pain when you invert theres a good chance shits still attached but you could be at a grade 2 sprain by now which can be tricky depending on the extent of the damage.
