i've been experiencing dull, lower back pain for the past year ..i haven't squatted heavy for almost a year now and it sucks. i'm gonna take it slow and hopefully i don't mess up my back again. last time i squatted heavy (only 265 lb for 3x5), i felt my hip shifting to the left side as i was coming up and felt a sharp pain. ever since then, my back hasn't been the same. i did seee a physical therapist two weeks ago and he told me to do these strengthening exercises and stretches to help with my back. he says my right lower side is thicker than my left (which i knew) so i should try to strengthen my left lower back more.
i was diagnosed with mild scoliosis when i was very young and every year i've been to the doctor, my curvature has stayed the same which is a very good thing. doctor has always told me my scoliosis is fine as long as my curvature does not get any worse. i don't know if my scoliosis is the cause for my bad form or pain during squat. sometimes i just don't feel right when i squat, especially my feet and hip. i stretch and foam roll a lot. the physical therapist told me i'm very flexible, and he said not many patients have the range of motion in my hamstrings that i do..
in this video, i'm doing high bar squats but i think i did low-bar squat back then and transitioned to a hybrid. maybe that could be one of the problems. i might have done high bar squat with low-bar mechanics. idk. whenever i do high bar squats, i feel like i'm losing tension in my upper back as i'm descending as you can see in the video. is this a shoulder flexibility issue?
is starting rippetoe's starting strength with such high squat frequency a good idea? thanks!
