new ball hockey season started so it's same as hockey just running. And my legs are absolutely wrecked after the games and my leg days are suffering. How do you guys maintain your lifts during your intense sports seasons? Mainly legs , upper body isn't suffering .

this is why "just lifting" does you no good if you are active in sports. 0% endurance crew

< Active squash player here.

My leg workout IS the match / training that I do. I compliment by doing calves the next day. Can't even think of squats / lunges due to soreness.

If the season is over, you hit them hard in the gym again.

When I played soccer, which is comparable to hockey I'd like to think, I didn't train legs in the gym at all.

Yeah, lol. I haven't done this much intense running in awhile so my legs are absolutely DEAD. I had 2 games since Sunday, and another tomorrow.

I squatted 255 last week before the season, just did 225 for reps this week.

This, add running to your routine.

Squatting =/= overall leg strength. Running uses a lot of muscles that just aren't used unless you're running. Can't effectively train to run without actually doing it...make sure to mix it up with interval runs, sprints, inclines etc.

No point in being strong as long as you look strong. B)

Monday
Squat
Bench tng

Wednesday

Friday
Pin bench

Glute ham raise

Tues, Thurs is rugby training, Saturday is game day

Do split your volume across the week, increase frequency, get stronger avoid DOMS
