Took the CPAT today and it was pouring rain. Couldn't get traction with my shoes in the rain and kept slipping during the dummy rescue drag. Finished the course in 10 minutes 47 seconds. Passing time is 10 minutes 20 seconds.. quite depressing. Feel like I would have nailed it without the rain.

Well, that's my dear diary entry for today. Fitness related.

E/ I have one more chance to pass it in May, but it's still a bummer that I failed today.

My testing group at 1:30pm today consisted of 17 guys and 1 girl. Only 6 guys passed. 4 guys didn't make it past the first event. Myself and 2 others finished the course, but not within the allotted time. 1 guy blacked out during the dummy drag. Everyone was required to see the paramedics upon completion of their trial to get checked out before they were allowed to leave.

I'm not sure what the yearly pass/fail rate is. They offer the test twice a year, as the second step in the hiring process.

Starting salary without a college degree is $39,124 as a Firefighter I. They'll pay for your school, and give you a 5% raise for an associates, and 10% for a bachelors.

Then there's tons of other options, classes, specific fields, and such that offer more money. My buddy has been a firefighter in Charlotte for 5 years and makes roughly $55,000 at 25 years old. My best friend's uncle makes just short of $100,000 and he's been on the job for almost 20 years.

Not to mention you work 10 days a month.
1 on, 1 off, 1 on, 2 off, 1 on, 4 off. Repeat.

So plenty of time for a second job/hobby. It's also more of a lifestyle and not a job. It's something I'm excited to spend the next 30 years of my life doing. Not a day I'll wake up regretting what I do for a living.

I hope so man! 3 and a half more weeks to train, so that's a silver lining.
