Haven't touched DBs for flat bench for like 3 years. thought I was strong enough to do similar weight to my barbell bench. lifted off in started position, immediately threw it away. many many people watching cause it was a university gym.

i always start of 1st set of a new exercise at low weight just to get the feel of it, even if its a simple curl. just my personal preference. ill usually start off dumbell curls with a simple 15 or 20 lbs

nice warmup too
