At the uni gym, the scales in the men's changing room always weighed me and my mate at around 163 lbs. He said that on other scales he was like 7-10 lbs higher, which was a big difference so I thought that obviously the gym scales must be correct and his home scales were non natty.
So fast forward to February, we go in the gym one day and the men's changing room has switched with the women's temporarily for whatever the reason. We weigh ourselves on the women's scale and boom we are both around 175. Of course, we had weighed ourselves on the men's scale literally days before at 163, at the same time in the morning and eating the same sh1t every day.
By this time we had concluded that the gym purposely altered the men's scales lower, as most male gym goers (especially at a university gym with guys in their early 20's) want to bulk up. Conversely, they will have set the women's scale higher as most women want to tone up and lose a bit of weight.
I got home today for the first time since early January and tested the digital scales at my home just to confirm the hypothesis. BOOM on the scale I weighed 168 lbs, right in between the 2 values. Again, I was 163 lbs at the uni gym just days before this.
When I return to university in May I will be filing a complaint to the gym.
I hope you don't use that small of a sample group for all your conclusions.
Also usually , not always but most university gyms offer their facilities free to students and at a large discount to alumni's. They have already collected their money in tuition fees to the university. There is no real reason to alter the scales to make you feel like you have to subscribe to a gym pass.
People dick with those scales so much in the locker-rooms that they will never properly be zeroed out.
Please file the complaint so they may chuckle at you.
