I did crossfit for 6 weeks when in rehab cuz its the only program they offered. I feel like it was beneficial in prepping me for a real gym.

and any other gym goer is a master of something? nah

Most people who go to the gym don't even know what a snatch or clean and jerk are, let alone how to do one.

Crossfit can be really good if it's done right. Unfortunately it's not most of the time

Oh and the workout names thing really irritates me.

this basically.

granted, i've never been to a crossfit... i think they have some good ideas from what i've researched online, and of course some bad ones.

the amount of people that couldnt say... overhead squat even 40-50% of their max back squat is ridiculous.

people get too stuck in "this ways good, every other way is dumb" mindset, and crossfit seems to be the easiest target..

theres value in body building training, crossfit style training, and a combination of both, etc.

Fair point. Much like the decalthon argument. Some say the greatest athlete in the world is not a boxer, football player, basketball, tennis or golf player, but a decathlete. As the name implies there's 10 rather different sports they have to master, and they are pretty different from each other (some require strength, others speed, endurance, explosiveness, power, etc..) so the "overall" best athlete in the world should be some one like Roman Sebrle, Daley Thompson, Bob Mathias, Dan O'Brien or Ashton Eaton and not Mike Tyson / Muhammed Ali / Michael Jordan/Schumacher / Tiger Woods / Roger Federer / Pele / Bolt etc..

It sort of begs the question... Would you rather be good at absolutely everything, or the best at one thing?
