I have to be treading water with my hands out of the water. How can I achieve this?

I have no swimming experience.

Imagine you're trapped between two walls on either side of you a little wider than shoulder width. you can only escape to safety by going up, and you can only use your feet (maybe you're handcuffed). Apply this scenario to being in a pool, I do a kind of sideways kick with each foot. Imagine like you had Spider-Man feet and could get up the walls by walking upwards and out. kick your feet like you're doing high knees but kick out too. That's my best effort at explaining how I do it at least.

you have to get good at farting in powerful bursts to keep your head above water

Just go to a water polo class. It's probably the best place to learn it. I didn't know how to properly egg beater until I started playing water polo.

You need do drills up and down the pool where you do egg beater trying to keep your hands out of the water. Eventually you'll build up the strength to do it.

I've swam since I was a little kid and I float like most people so idk what to say other than kick your feet back and forth, not even hard or fast.

Same here. As for the exercise, don't force yourself up too much, just keep your mouth / nose above the water enough to keep on breathing.

It was part of my swimming classes, did it when I was 6, had to do this exercise for 2 minutes.

I've never been able to do an effective egg beater either. People have shown me and I do what they do, yet I can't keep my head up. I naturally sink though, even with a full breath in my lungs. The disadvantages of having low body fat lol

No that's definitely not it.

You just don't know how to properly swim or tread.

I probably stay around 6-8% bf during the summer and have no problem treading, but I was an all city swimmer too.

To say that low body fat is why you can't float properly is lolable.

Edit: for OP, there's not much people on a forum can teach u.. U need someone irl watching u and practice obviously...

U wouldn't hop on a basketball court and expect to start knocking down 3 pointers your first day lol.
