what is your question? did he explain the details of the surgery to you? decompression of the tibial nerve is pretty safe. basically the nerve is being crushed by other structures in and of your tarsal tunnel (analogous to the carpal tunnels in your wrists). the surgery would just alleviate the pressure on the nerve, and they would likely identify compression points via diagnostic imaging. nerves are actually fairly tensile structures, you'd be surprised. the risk of damage is quite low and its not a particularly complex area to perform surgery on. there are 3 tendons, a vein, an artery and a nerve. the worst thing that could happen is they nick the tendon and you lose sensation of the sole of your foot and some motor control of your toes. tibial nerve does all of its calf innervation well before the tarsal tunnel.
