Need some help.

So i recorded an important lecture for one of my con law class

I go to listen to it, and it's so quiet that I can't even tell if audio is playing with max volume.

So i downloaded audacity, and "normalized" the file, increased Db a bit. Now i can actually here my prof a bit, but it's so choppy I most likely won't be able to listen to it still.

Could anyone edit this file for me or just give me some tips/instructions on how to do it? I'm a complete noob when it comes to this stuff.

go into effects and try adding compression

it's tough because most things you will do will raise the entire noise level of the recording, but that's probably cool if it's just one dude talking without much other noise going on
