ive heard some people crush ibuprofen and put a bit directly on tooth and gums of area where theres pain

does this work?

is it safe for the gums?

ive also heard this can be bad for the gums?

Just about as bad as tasting cocaine before you buy it

or maybe its just aspirin due to the salicylic acid in it?


im having severe tooth pain right now... would like to know.

The solution is not meant for oral administration, it's meant to be swallowed.

Which means I believe this local analgesic action he's seeking would probably work.

However, @OP, just know NSAIDs really aren't that robust so don't expect massive pain relief like you would from a stronger opioid. It only inhibits COX-2, leading to diminished production of prostaglandins that typically sensitize your nociceptive terminals to augment pain. A different local analgesic/anesthetic, however, would be able to inhibit sodium channel conductance in the nociceptive terminal, impeding depolarization directly.

There would be minor absorption (sublingually) as compared to the bioavailability the cox inhibitor absorbed by the stomach. There would be no direct effect on the tooth as if it was some topical anesthetic such as lignocaine/novocaine or a nerve block. OP will have better luck applying sensodyne toothpaste lol
