Breaks motherfucker, do you take them? I for one... don't. Long story / post:

I constantly read / have people tell me irl that I need to take a break from training cos over training and bla bla but I absolutely hate it. its supposed to be beneficial to take a break every now and then, before I hated breaks because they made me weaker, but now its also because I have no idea what to do with my self if I go 7 days or so without training.

Anyways, half-way against my will I've taken a 6 day break (or will by the time I train again on tuesday) because of shoulder pain (this shoulder pain has come and gone the past ~ 6-9 months) <-- maybe I made a thread about it already, idk..

How it happened:

Two things to note: I train 6-7times per week, twice per muscle group (my own variant of push/pull/leg) + two sessions of cheerleading a week; Mon + Wed (sometimes Sunday too) which can only be considered a workout during days I do partner stunts (one guy lifting/throwing/holding up/ balancing a girl in the air)

My split looks like this:

Day 1: chest + triceps + calves
Day 2: back + biceps + hamstrings
Day 3: shoulders + quads + abs

x 2 per week

Last Tuesday was meant to be Chest day and Wednesday Shoulder day but one of my flyers called and wanted to do partner stunts on Wednesday so I'd figure I'd swap the days around so I can actually perform said stunts (which require a lot of shoulder/leg work, mostly shoulders)

Ultimately giving me less time for my shoulders to rest (they weren't soar), which went fine but on chest day that Wednesday I had to quit cause of the shoulder pain from benchpressing , I went straight from bench to triceps and when I got to the cheer practice I couldn't lift shit without my shoulder hurting like a bitch.

----------------

Not gonna train tomorrow but I'll meet up for cheerleading and I'll do those partner stunts that I was meant to do 5 days ago... Hope my shoulders better by now (hasn't hurt at all since wednesday..)

About taking breaks

Last time I took a break was the 7 days I spent in Copenhagen around the first week of July this summer,so for about 4 months straight I've trained almost every single day (if hangover is bad I don't train) with no breaks whatsoever.

I guess it was about time for me to take a week off? Even if the culprit was me swapping chest and shoulder day around... And holy shit how boring these past 5 days have been.. Not to mention I feel like a slob. I better reek in dem benefits when I get back in action on Tuesday

Your input

How often do you guys take breaks?
How long are your breaks when you take them?

Still no replies but I feel like the question might come up sooner or later about my training split:

I don't see any other way of training every part of my body twice per week without anything interfering...

I tried push/pull/leg but holy fuck who's idea was it to put shoulders AND chest on the same day? Chest HAS to be the first muscle group you train on any given day and after you've done chest you've got zero energy to do shoulders, period. At least with me.

I figured the best way of doing it was splitting chest and shoulders into two different days and then splitting up legs into three parts (hams, quads and calves) and then dividing them equally into the other 3 days. Hams should go well with back (deadlifts, hyper extensions) and calves to compliment chest/tri days, quads cause shoulders are shortest of the three days and quads take the longest (squats + leg extensions)

This way each training session should be long enough for me to get my workouts done but short enough for me to actually bother to do them, not be too drained to finish off a muscle group at the end (like with push/pull and me neglecting shoulders for about 3-4 months til I decided I needed to change program)

You have a constant schedule. I take breaks when I have varying patterns of work i.e. studying.

Most gym goers don't monitor their diets, so obviously working 6-7 times a week fatigues them eventually. whatever works for you bro

I was just about to post a topic like this. I'm curious to how often I should deload. I just started a P/P/L 6 days a week as well, but I also do military pt 5 days a week (pushups, pull ups, sit ups and lots of running) I feel with this much volume I should at least take a deload every ~8 weeks??

I'm used to running 5/3/1 and taking a deload every 4 weeks lol.
