I worked in a Army Aviation unit for a year and I had a ton of friends who were aviation specific MOS.

It just seems mind-boggling that they can make $100k+ a year (as claimed) for doing a job that required 8 weeks of training + 2 1/2 (roughly) years of "hands on" experience.

I dont have trouble believing that at all. The various certifications and qualifications that your friends worked for and earned while in the military are worth so much as a civilian.

A civilian without any military experience who wants to earn the same quals and certs as your friend will pay tens of thousands of dollars to get trained, while being in the military that tax payers pay for you to get trained. Thats why employers look for prior service air wingers/mechanics especially because they have all the necessary training
