Sup bros, have any of you ever had an issue with grip strength on the deadlift? I have noticed declining grip strength with my left hand. It's hit or miss on days, some days I can pull 355x5 (tend to warm up, 315x5, 2 sets 335x5, then I go for reps at 355. Those will vary from day to day. I know my body can pull 355, but I recently switched to double overhand (about 1.5 months ago) and have had issues gaining left hand grip strength. Any suggestions?

This + grip the bar as tightly as you can.

I used to yse alternate grip, but I'm a bigger fan of double overhand (my left hand would bleed a lot using alternate, but I could life more weight). I generally try to squeeze as hard as I can, but my left hand will fail.

I liked alternate grip too, but I switch between double overhand and alternate grip cause once
I did the double overhand again, it felt easier.

When I grip as hard as I can, if it takes too long I lose it and the rep fails; hasn't happened
too many times before though.

A dot.comrade on another forum had me look into Kroc rows. After seeing Wendler rep out 210 x 16, one handed:

and reading Kroczaleski's article on T Nation:

I was sold on 'em for grip strength. And I *do* feel that they've helped.

You have some good answers but i will say something as far as technique goes & what helps me.

When I grip the bar (I use alternate grip, but bear with me) I tend to overgrip around it so that my wrists curl over (or under, depending on the hand) the bar, and then at the lift moment I allow the wrists to straighten out. A bit like when your wring a towel. It digs directly into the hand but I feel the grip is stronger than if I just go directly under and over the bar. It doesn't improve grip strength but it for me it locks the grip down better.

That's only if the limitation on grip strength is relatively slight. If it feels like you're going to lose the bar after a few reps then either get into straps or follow the advice given above and either will help :)

I was having bleeding issues before and someone told me something so simple but it worked.

Hold the bar without pinching your skin. Put it between the ends of your fingers and your hand without squishing all that skin inside.
