I'm a 5'9 female and the charts say a "healthy" weight for me would be between 125.3 - 169.3 lbs.

that seems insanely thin for me and being new to this fitness deal I was wondering if charts were a bad thing to be following

I'm aiming for 175-180 or something

So in simple format:

How accurate are these BMI charts? should I even be looking at'em for guidance?

thanks!

the bmi charts are complete bulshit.. used for the 'people' to get a grasp on wha a normal weight is, but the fact of the matter is.. people vary alot
Muscles, Liquid, Fat, Gut Flora, Body hair, ect..
The BMI charts is like a rough estimate for ideal body weights.
If you just look in the damn mirror u will know if you are fat or not.

They're not "complete bullshit" in regards to the general population. For a norma untrained individual those charts are indeed a great way to quickly judge (without knowing other information) if you are / are not overweight.

there is no confusion. they apply to a normal population. they dont apply to people with more than average muscle mass.

unless you lift weights frequently, the BMI index is a decent guideline for where your body mass should be.

imo just focus on the diet and make sure you're losing weight at the right pace. worry about when to stop later on when you feel comfortable with your body

my friend is 5'6'' 130s-140s and i think she looks great, but i tend to like girls with a bit of squish. so 125 @ 5'9 sounds insanely thin.
