Hey guys I finally have decided to get back into shape. As of right now I am EXTREMELY out of shape. Especially compared to what I used to be. Right now I am pushing the BMI scale of morbid obesity and really can feel it. I weigh 220 pounds and am 5'10.

I cannot live like this any longer and need to get it into check. Not only to feel better but I do not wanna develop diabetes or other medical conditions from being so over weight. Right now I eat whatever I want and drink a absurd amount of Dr Pepper.
I gained all of this weight over the last 4 years as a hardcore alcoholic. I have since quit drinking entirely (replaced it with Dr Pepper lol). Drinking was causing me other problems health wise for me also. Liver, kidney and blood pressure issues. Went to rehab 2 times and seem to finally have gotten a good grip on that problem. I cut my self a lot of slack with the Dr Pepper because it seems to replace the sugars that I was consuming from alcohol.

So now I need to address this issue. I was always in amazing shape as a kid/teenager. At my peak shape I was 185 pounds 6-7% body fat lifting 6-7 days a week. But for now I wanna just get my weight under control and live a healthy life.

I am currently reading up on the keto diet and it seems to look good on paper? Anyone have some advice about this.

For now I am going to walk before I run and give up the Dr Pepper and replace it with water. I will make this my first weeks challenge to my self.

9/5/2014 -- Give up Dr pepper.

Next goal. Walk 1 mile per day minimum.

I do not wanna burn my self out by trying to do to much at once too quickly.

Also I am open ears to some diet ideas. I bring my lunch to work so I need to be able to do that easily. Not a great cook (will burn shit) so if I can keep that easy would be awesome also.

For now I am thinking simple.

Tuna fish
More Salad
Boneless Chicken Breast
Water
Water
Nuts

Shoot me some ideas! Snacks and easy meals for bringing to work etc.

Thanks for reading!

eat more fruits/veggies
do more exercise

stop being so scared of what your limit is. if you used to be in your "peak" shape, know you can get back there through hard work and then get even farther with more hard work

from my own past experience any diet will work tbh. I personally dont function well on super low carbs but ull lose a good amount of water weight the first week or so on keto (i think i lost about 10~ every time i measured before refeed) Give it a try and see how it goes, my name's kenny too so just because of that I will follow this thread if u plan on posting progress :D Just beware ull probably feel like shit the first 2 weeks or so of diet if u decide to go keto

What am I reading here... I am not scared of a limit. I just do not wanna burn my self out quickly by over committing to too much stuff and then not following through. Also that was MY peak as in the best shape I have been in. I did not say it was the best possible shape I could be in. But thanks for the post I guess. Also I do not really think fruits are gonna be the way I wanna go. Lots of sugar.

Yea I was reading about that Keto Flu thing. I might kinda avoid going on that diet for now and just try to eat extremely healthy and exercise. I also do terrible on super low carb diets. I think my body is very very use to high sugar intake. Because of the alcohol. 24-30 drinks a day for 6 + years.

What helps me cut weight tremendously is getting rid of wheat/gluten from my diet, and consuming mostly veggies for carbs as well as sweet potatoes.

No pasta, noodles, bread etc.

Yea gonna have to do this for sure. Lots of dark greens. Eating properly and exercise in my future.

Also the simple Intake < Calories used = Lose weight is pretty good :)

Yeah, I recommend you go slow in the beginning because I always see people who barely start go way too hard only to feel burnt out & see working out as a job rather a hobby from slow results.

Stick to water, fruits, veggies, chicken, tuna, etc.
also give yourself a cheat meal a week so you satisfy your crave, but make sure within proportional reasoning.

Goodluck! Hope you post pictures & keep your thread updated on goals & journey overall!

Thanks bro will do! Yea that is very very common when people try to do this. People have to realize it is a completely different lifestyle!
