So I've had hairloss and thinning hair on my scalp since i was 12. I went to the doctor years ago and all she said is that i should get more iron in my diet.
About a year ago i lost about 25 pounds (i'm currently 185 pounds and 6'1). During this period i was tracking my calories on a site and all the vitamins/minerals i was getting.
I always had enough or more than enough iron in my diet.
The hairloss is not genetic.. I did the test where you pull some of your hair for a couple of seconds but nothing came out.
Could this be something with my hormones?

This works for some people as well as myself: try washing your hair with baking soda and conditioning it with apple cider vinegar. It strengthens your hair, makes it appear healthier and adds volume. I've been doing it for about a month now and will never use regular shampoo and conditioner again. Depending on how long your hair is will determine how much of each you mix with water. Just research it on Google its easy to find.

E// assuming you use brand name shampoo/conditioner, some peoples hair is affected negatively from the harmful ingredients.
Plus, using the baking soda and vinegar approach, you only need to wash your hair 2-3 times a week otherwise its counterproductive. Its also highly unlikely something is wrong with a 18 year olds hormones

You have male pattern baldness most likely, etiologically it could be genetic, dietary (iron levels as you mentioned), hormonal (testosterone levels), autoimmune, or drug/stress-induced.

You mentioned weight loss, how fast did you lose that weight? did you intentionally lose that weight or was it unplanned and over a short period of time? If it was over a short period of time such as 25 lbs in 1 month then it could be an underlying serious condition which needs immediate medical attention.

As for your iron, have you gotten your hemoglobin levels checked in a blood test? Iron deficiency anemia contributes to hair loss, and weight loss. BUT your iron deficiency anemia could have an underlying cause if you claim to have a balanced diet rich in iron.

So I highly suggest you go get a blood panel done from your doctor (iron levels/Hb levels/testosterone levels) and tell him about your weight loss and anemia, because you could have some sort of occult bleeding somewhere in your body decreasing your hemoglobin levels or a worm taking up all your nutrients causing the anemia -> hair loss.

As for the baking soda, vinegar (used for folliculitis or a follicle drug test), it would be best to stick to your normal shampoo/conditioner instead of bombarding your hair follicles with acid because some uninformed person on this subforum told you so.

Let me know what your doc says.

I didn't lose the weight fast. Probably took me about 18 months.
I had a blood test done about 2-3 months ago and everything was fine.
However i forgot to mention that i'm allergic to dust. Could that be something?
And as for the hormones: i guess i'm still in puberty and i heard that during puberty you could have imbalanced hormones or whatever. Im not sure though.

No there is no correlation between dust allergies and hair loss.

As for your diet, keep it balanced, eat plenty of green leafy vegetables rich in iron, and if you notice any symptoms of anemia: fatigue, breathlessness, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, lightheadedness, etc. Then go to your doctor and tell him your symptoms and get a blood panel ran.

During puberty your testosterone levels shoot up, you should be gaining hair and not losing it.

As for your hair loss then it's most likely genetic male pattern baldness irrelevant of iron deficiency and hormones.

Your doc probably just implied that your brittle hairs were due to anemia/iron deficiency, not the hair loss, that's most likely genetic then.

Thanks for the tips in terms of diet
But it can't be genetic. My father is 50 and he still has very healthy hair without much hairloss
None of my 3 siblings have hairloss. Mother doesn't either. The people from my mothers side all got thick hair.
I've had this problem since i was 12 which sucks. I've already tried using shampoos that are good for your hair but nothing helped
My diet has been great for the past 2-3 years. Before that my diet was horrible.

Then if it's not stress, diet, genetics, drugs, pulling/tugging,etc, then you're probably suffering from something called Alopecia (areata) where you get random bald spots on your head and lose hair around puberty. Go talk to your doctor and ask him about this because you don't want to lose all your hair after puberty.
