split the whatever you call it between abs...have umbilical hernia and split from navel to about 4 inches above navel...needs surgery...scheduled not a problem

Q. anyone else here split this?

Q. how long before you could lift again?

Q. were there any long term effects such as the weakening and possibility of future damage?

not a power lifter..Im a laborer..was lifting a 200 pound electric motor into a scrap dumpster off a dock...about chest height I felt the tear because the shaft turned and my hand rotated and it was drop it and crush my feet or up and over..went up and over ofc

A. Not me, but dad.
Q. how long before you could lift again?
A. 3-4 months for 'minor' lifting. 8-12 months to be close to normal.

A. Yes he is weaker now, partly due to the 9 months of minor to no workouts, partly do to fear of further damage.

had one done 2ish years ago. umbilical like half inch below navel.

Took me ~2 months before I could lift again. I started very slow. Could not do squats and other workouts that really activated my core. For another couple months while doing those workouts it felt tender but could still lift heavy.

6 months later I was perfectly fine. 2 years later, stronger than ever. Only thing left is an external scar.

I'll be honest I don't really know a lot about hernias but what I do know is that after you have surgery, the area will be healed with fibrous tissue, and that's definitely weaker than muscle. Hernias generally occur due to any increase in intra-abdominal pressure, heavy lifting, and old age.

It's hard to tell when you could lift again but you should ask your doctor, he'll most likely say never, or heavy lifting should be avoided, and general idiotic answers like that.

As for the long term effects, yea it will be different, there will always be an increased risk due to the surgery you had. Your chances of recurrence are greatly increased.

depends on your base level of strength and such prior to hernia.

was training marley when his happened, he recovered as stated above.

irl friend who i was training was back in the gym in 6 weeks and full swing in 3-4 months.

other people recover a lot slower, either way it's better than the real thing once it's fully repaired.
