Younger cousin want to start lifting and I don't really want to make him do squats yet but if you guys think it's okay I will.

He's 12 going into 7th grade and will be lifting 2x a week in their p.e. class.

inb4 growth stunt

its not recommended for children under the age of 14 to lift weights (unless very light) because theyre still in their peak of growth and damage to the tissues between the long bones (forgot name) can stop their growth, which isnt worth the reward

ex. if he fucks up his left arm, he'll end up with a longer right arm

also he wont gain much muscle at his age and squats could affect his height if he fucks up

Thank you. Exactly how should I proceed with squats and/or deadlifts should he hold off?

Is what qwaze said about like hurting his arm true and if it's hurt will it not grow to full size?

Also what can he read to help get him started about lifting and nutrition?

Don't take it too seriously with him, little kids (even adolescents such as yourself) are very impressionable and if you pressure him early with too much information he may either take it too far and develop an addiction of sorts, or you may just ruin the activity for him. Let him learn at his own pace and have fun with it, make it into a game. He's only 12, and you're only 14.
