You can work your way around with dumbells pretty good.
In fact, if you can get some high enough weights and a barbell, you wouldnt even need a gym membership before quite some time.
With a barbell, some dumbells (enough weight, like 100 for each) and a bench (to do incline, flat and decline) you would actually never need a gym membership if you ask me.
You can workout legs, arms, chest, back, etc
