Not saying  that it isn't, not saying that people should work 70 hours a week etc. Saying that to say you'll never work over 40 hours a week in your life is pure laziness. I mean a lot of rich people that don't have to work that much or get to retire early got to that point by working their asses off

It isn't lazy though. It's simply having other priorities in your life. If you don't need to work more than 40 hours a week to life the way you want to then do it...

work 4 and 4

so its not shabby

48 hours in 4 days then get drunk a bunch and forget it all

that's a good shift. I would like to get on a job that does 7 on 7 off. Wouldn't even care if it was 7 12s at that point.

In my opinion, quality of life drops FAST after the 40 hour mark.  This is coming from a guy with no wife or kids.

I call BS on people who talk casually about 60+ hour work weeks (unless they are working though residency).  Just being away from home doesn't count.  I mean actually being on the clock 60+ hours/week.

I am ok with working overtime every now and then, but when it becomes regular I do put my foot down.  I find it surprising how little free time I have even though I have no responsibilities aside from my 40hr/week job.

I'm at work 45-50 hours a week, and feel like I could use more (if I had a higher paying job).

the sacrifices people make for a job blow my mind.

I've done a lot of different jobs and worked a lot of different kinds of hours. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and that's all there is to it but at the end of the day I got real tired of bullshit jobs working bullshit hours making a bullshit wage.

I want my life to mean something so I've dedicated my time to getting on doing what I should have 10 years ago. Becoming a structural firefighter.

Later this year, I hope to achieve that. Helping people will give meaning to my life. The hours and wage I will make are purely a bonus and I will enjoy going to work, or training or whatever I will have to do on any particular day when I get on a FD.

I work 40 hours and commute an hour to work every day. It kind of sucks but it's not worth making the move until I'm offered a non-contract position at my company.

I would love to work less hours. But some days are better than others.

Doesn't matter how you slice it bro, working less is always better.

You can take the time to dissect every thing that may or may not be incorrect about my example, the point still makes sense.

The fact that you would call someone like me "Lazy scum" shows me that you are oozing with resentment and proves my point to be 100% correct. Educated guess here:L You are butt hurt and jealous that you are stuck slaving away at some shitty job you don't even like lol

Here in Canada, health care comes easy, I don't have to spend hardly a dime. I eat well, exercise, stay healthy, pay taxes, pay rent. Just like everyone else, I just do it more efficiently than you. Umad?

There is absolutely nothing stopping me from sleeping only 6 hours / night and getting an EVEN LARGER advantage over someone like you on a daily basis. So far your only argument is that you can work yourself into your grave to achieve the same thing I already have.

"Yeah well! I could just sleep less!" Yeah, no shit. ANd lose your hair / grow old before you're 40 and feel like a zombie every day of your life.

"Yeah well! I have more money!" Actually, you probably don't, if you are having to work that hard, chances are you were stupid enough to get yourself trapped in some kind of living situation where you purchased a bunch of material that you don't really need and have to slave yourself just to stay alive.
I mean I AM making an assumption here, but its a statistically responsible assumption that you use credit? Have fun paying 14% interest for the rest of your life on something that cost you 5 dollars, just because you'll never knock that balance off.

Even CEOs who are massively more successful than you and I are now promoting a 30 hour work week, it's catching on and I think it's fantastic that this world may be moving toward it.

Just fyi, I am going to debunk your points even further here:

There is absolutely zero science backing your claim that richer = living healthier / longer. If anything, it seems to be the opposite. Gluttony is KILLING millions of Americans / year and none of that accounts for hereditary disease which may automatically render my life strategy better than yours for the majority of people who are dying at around 71 in America.
And all of those years of zero work? You're sort of right, I did not account for that, but that's still only 18 years. So from 18-65, I am outliving you by 3 times or more.

You've also made the very bad assumption that my part time job is some random garbage mcdonalds position. I work for myself and make 30 / hour doing it, more than enough to live off of 4 days / week.

I also never tried to pretend that working at the job you love is the IDEAL situation. Did I not say that specifically, actually? I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that I said if you can find the job you love and over work it, you should. You seem to have misunderstood the entire purpose of my argument. My argument is that you should not get trapped inside a 40hr/week corporate grind that you hate. I am not Anti-work. I am Anti-slavery

Your move Dick Face

You're Canadian, entirely different situation from the US. I misread you, I am sorry. I can see a Canadian pulling that off, no way in hell that would work in america though.
