Hey Raynor,
Is there any method to the madness of bulking? Not lean bulking. Like eating 1000+ Surplus calories every day. So many people seem to be doing this and I don't see the point? Wouldn't you make the same gains as if you were lean bulking with 300+ calorie surplus and avoid fat?
Obviously, there must be some method to the madness here or everyone wouldn't be pounding so many damn calories. I don't understand lol.
there is more to it than just numbers.
Here are the factors...
1. If you are a hardgainer (very hard to gain mass) you require aggressive feeding techniques to properly fuel your body. Sometimes 1,000 cal surplus is on the low side, and 2,000 cals surplus is more like it for people like this. They will not get fat from this, as it is their only option to gain size.
2. If you are training 3+ hrs a day and are burning over 1,000 calories a day, you will need to be taking in at least 1,500 cals surplus to see some reasonable size gains. When I say surplus I am referring to surplus over basal metabolism.
3. If you simply "don't care" about your appearance and want to just convey the superficial image of being "BIG" not necessarily lean/cut/shredded, but just overall big and smooth, eating this way accelerates things. Some people prefer this look.
4. The more calories you eat, generally the more energy, less hunger, and overall feeling of happiness and satisfaction - some people do this as more of a comforting tool rather than anything having to do with the actual size/muscle gains.
So if you are NOT a hardgainer, not doing OUTRAGEOUS levels of exercise every day, and actually care about your physique.... taking in over 1,000 cals true surplus per day is not advised.
