If you don't care about aesthetics and just want to go for brute strength, size, and power (with a semi-high level of body fat) then just do a hard bulk right now.

If you care about aesthetics, then obviously go for the cut first, then bulk, and so forth.

Hypertrophy is throwing me for a trip is it supposed to work like this?

After the first week of hypertrophy you are supposed to take Monday off, that would leave it working chest only once a week instead of twice.

Is it supposed to work like that?


For ex.

First Week
Monday - Chest/bi
Tues - Back/tri
Weds - Leg/shoulders
Thurs - Rest
Friday - Repeat Mon.
Saturday Repeat Tues
Sunday Repeat Weds

Second Week
Mon - Off
Tues - Back/Tri
Weds - Leg/shoulders
Thursday - Rest
Friday - Chest/bi
Saturday - Back/tri
Sun - Leg/shoulders

The first part is correct,

However, the second week would be

Mon - OFF
tues - chest/bis
weds - back/tris

NEXT WEEK

thurs - back/tris
fri - legs/shoulders

The reason you seem to be having problems is that it is typical for us to imagine a week that starts on monday and ends on sunday. In bodybuilding weeks, a week is simply a CYCLE. For hypertrophy, it is an 8 day cycle - 3 days on with 1 day of rest. This makes the work week for training split up differently than a standard working week.

However if this is too crazy for you and you would like a different hypertrophy plan to accommodate a standard work schedule, check this one out:

hey j/w ... i kno its common for bodybuilders to bulk up till 15% bf, cut down to 8ish% and repeat.
my question is, whats the time frame that shld take place in? How long shld it take to bulk to 15% from 8, and then drop to 8 from 15?(rough estimate ofc)

Hey there...well it all depends on your body type...HOWEVER, for an "average" person...

8 months of bulk, 3 months of cut, 1 month of maintenance.

Hey Raynor,

I am in need of some help. Some what of a shopping list, but I would really appreciate your help to get me started.
First of all, my stats are: 169 lbs, 5'9, and ~13% body fat. My goal is to lose a lot of fat in my thighs/butt/stomach and gain muscle in abs/shoulders/chest/arms. I want to know what kind of work out routine I should follow. What my diet should be every day, what supplements to take, and last what to consume/eat before/after workouts and how long before/after those workouts I should do them. No allergies to any food, and I'd like to keep my budget fairly low.
